Print these cards out on cardstock (laminate for heavy use). Provide pom poms, vase gems, Unifix Cubes, mini erasers or some other manipulative for children to measure (non-standard) the length of the animals. Students may use the the included Farm Animals – Measure and Record worksheet to record their measurements. Discuss which animals are longer, shorter, or the same length.

Print these cards out on cardstock (laminate for heavy use) and cut in half. Students will say the name of each picture and pair the rhyming partners to complete the puzzles.

BARN BURNER – RACE TO THE TOP (COLOR 1 SHEET & 6 POCKET CUBE/DIE CARDS/B&W 1 SHEET & 6 POCKET CUBE/DIE CARDS)

Print this activity out on cardstock (laminate for heavy use). Cut out the cards and insert them into a pocket cube/die. Provide pom poms, vase gems, mini erasers or some other manipulative for children to use as markers. For individual use, the child will roll the cube/die, identify the picture, and place a marker in the appropriate column. Repeat until a column is full to the top; that animal wins. In small group, provide each child with his/her own sheet. Students will take turns rolling, marking their own roll. First person to fill a column to the top wins the Barn Burner! Encourage learners to take a good look at their graphs, and discuss which of their animals came in first, second, and so on.

Print this activity out on cardstock (laminate for heavy use). For small group use, print out multiple copies. Cut out the number cards. Prompt younger students to practice one-to-one correspondence while counting the hearts. Older children may utilize their set recognition skills. Once the number of hearts in a picture has been determined, learners will identify the corresponding number card and place it under the picture in its designated box. Students will continue until all of the hearts on the sheet have been counted.

MATH AND LITERACY WORKSHEETS (10)

Number Love – Sequencing – Have children cut and glue to complete the number order.

Valentine Sisters – Measuring Height – Instruct students to cut out the heart ruler and use it to measure each sister. They will then write the numbers on the designated lines.

Heart Roll & Color – Number Recognition – Learners will roll the die and color the number shown. Continue until all of the numbers on the paper have been covered. When using this activity in small group, have the children take turns rolling the die.

Valentine Goodies – Patterning – Prompt students to cut and glue to complete the patterns. Discuss the patterns, and encourage young learners to describe and identify them.

Colorful Hearts – Counting/Following Directions – Children will use the code to count the hearts and color them accordingly.

Valentine’s Day – Association – Learners will study the groups of pictures and cross out the ones that do not belong. Discuss the different attributes of the items and why they do or don’t belong together.

Love Letter – Uppercase Letter Recognition – Children will dot or color the uppercase letters. Depending on the child’s ability, a sheet of paper may be used to cover the other pictures as he/she works one row at a time.
